Last year, Yeah Yeah Yeahs dropped their highly-anticipated fifth studio effort, Cool It Down. The record earned debuted at number 6 on Billboard’s Independent Albums and Top Rock Albus chart and entered Billboard 200’s top 50. Moreover, the album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, making it the fifth time the band earned a Grammy nod.
The new album, which spawned singles “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” and “Burning,” is a follow-up to the band’s highest-charting effort, Mosquito. The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 charts and number 2 on the Top Alternative Albums and Rock Rock Albums. Mosquito, which frontwoman Karen O described as “extremely lo-fi,” was actually Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ last album to be released through Interscope Records. The band went independent for the next record, which also took nine years to release. The band’s critically-acclaimed records always had a “restlessness” appeal that resonated well with fans and critics.
