Singer Adam Durlitz and guitarist/producer Dave Bryson formed Counting Crows in 1991, when they started performing in and around San Francisco and Berkley, Calfornia as an acoustic duo. Over the years, the band gained members and in 1993 they were signed to Geffen Records. In September of that year, August and Everything After, their debut album, was released. It contained the hit single “Mr Jones”, and the song's popularity lead to the record becoming the fastest-selling album since Nirvana's Nevermind. The band have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and in 2004 they received an Academy Award nomination for their song "Accidentally in Love," which was included in the film Shrek 2.
